(Not to be confused with a moron starting your blog.) Maybe you're intimidated about starting a blog. Maybe you're struggling with maintaining your blog. Either way, this post on Problogger.net written by Ali from Aliventures, can help. It's a lengthy post, worth the read, but the takeaway I want to share with you are 3 essentials stated:
- Creating compelling content
- Any major usability issues (eg. your RSS feed not working!)
- Getting the word out about your blog – using social media sites and contacts
Notice the first one is about content. Build authentic content. People won't visit because your template is their favorite color. They'll visit, and hopefully return, because you engaged them.
For the most part, you shouldn't have many usability issues because the popular blog platforms (Tyepad and Blogger) are fairly straight forward. The RSS feed is a way people can subscribe to your blog. Read here to learn about RSS.
Mention your blog on your other social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), but don't do it ad nauseum.
Now, go get your blog on.
here here! or is it hear hear! on that last point.
